DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0100Z May 15, 2017
SMOKE: Gulf of Mexico/Florida western Atlantic.... There was little change from this morning in the light to moderately dense smoke over the Gulf of Mexico. The remnant smoke covered much of the southwestern Gulf of Mexico and continued to the east off the northern Yucatan coast and over the southern portion of the Florida Peninsula and into the Bahamas. The moderately dense portion was visible over the Bay of Campeche. A separate area of light density smoke was seen over the open Atlantic east of Jacksonville and Daytona Beach. This remnant smoke was likely from the West Mims fire in the Okefenokee Wildlife Refuge. Upper Midwest: An area of light remnant smoke was seen from southeast Minnesota across southern Wisconsin, southern Lake Michigan, northern Illinois and into northern Indiana. This smoke is likely from agricultural burning in southern Canada and the Dakotas. DUST: Arizona.... A small plume of light to moderately dense blowing dust was observed this evening coming from the Willcox Playa in southeast Arizona and moving to the northeast.
