DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: Mexico/Bay of Campeche/Western Caribbean... Numerous fires over western Mexico are emitting light density smoke in a plume extending eastward across the Bay of Campeche and the western Caribbean. This plume ends near the western extent of an area of Saharan dust. Northern Mexico/Texas... Fires over western Mexico are producing a plume of light density smoke. This plume extends northward toward the US/Mexico border where it is being absorbed into a weak frontal system. DUST: Western Atlantic/Puerto Rico/Caribbean/Cuba/Bahamas... A significant area of Saharan dust continued to affect the region including Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, and Cuba with the dust also now spreading to the north across the Bahamas and well off the Southeastern and Eastern US coast. -Gaetano THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
