THROUGH 1745Z May 29, 2017
SMOKE: Southwest US: Fires in central and east central Arizona and western New Mexico continue to produce localized light to moderately dense smoke plumes this morning. Southeast US: A large wildfire south of Lake Okeechobee continues to produce light to moderate density smoke, spreading east to the Bahamas. Another fire west of Cape Canaveral is also generating smoke that is observed extending east into the Atlantic. Mexico/Gulf of Mexico: Numerous fires throughout Mexico and Central America are collectively responsible for a large area of remnant light density smoke that covers much of the northern Gulf of Mexico. DUST: Saharan dust is observed in satellite imagery this morning covering the majority of the Gulf of Mexico. Ramirez THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/Products/land/hms.html GIS: http://www.firedetect.noaa.gov/viewer.htm KML: http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/FIRE/kml.html ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
