DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0315Z August 8, 2017
SMOKE: Pacific Northwest to New England.... Fires over southern British Columbia and the northern Rockies continue to produce a large smoke plume that extends from offshore New Foundland to the west through New England, Midwest, Great Plains, Central and Northern Rockies to the Pacific Northwest. Moderate to high density smoke extended from the Central and Southern Plains from Missouri west/northwest through the Central and Northern Rockies and Pacific Northwest to southern British Columbia and southern Alberta. Central and Southern Canada.... The northern portion of the smoke plume from the British Columbia fires combined with smoke from fires over the southern Northwest Territories extends from portions of northern Quebec southwest through Ontario and into the upper Midwest and then west through most of southern Canada. DUST: Caribbean... An area of Saharan dust remained over portions of the western Gulf of Mexico. Hanna THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
