DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0300Z April 6, 2018
SMOKE: Southeastern US... Numerous seasonal fires were detected in the region stretching from Mississippi to Georgia and Florida and northeastward from there across the Carolinas to central Virginia. Many smoke plumes of varying density were also seen with some of the smoke plumes merging to form larger patches of smoke by late in the day. Central US... A concentrated amount of seasonal burning was also noted over northeastern Oklahoma, the eastern half of Kansas, southeastern Nebraska, and western Missouri. Thin to locally moderately dense smoke was visible with some of the fires resulting in larger areas of smoke primarily affecting eastern Kansas and western Missouri. JS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
