DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE:
Western Canada/Western and Central United States....
Wildfires continue over much of the Western United States and Western
Canada.  A tremendous area of light to moderate density smoke from this
activity that was observed going north east and then shifting southeast
near the Dakotas. The plume extended to as far east as the Upper Midwest
to the Central Gulf Coast of the United States as far as northern Georgia.
The highest density smoke within this area was located along the southern
portion of Saskatchewan province of Canada west towards the fire activity
over Washington, Oregon, California and southern British Columbia.
Another area of moderate density smoke originating from fires in the
southern Yukon and northern British Columbia was traveling nearly due
east through Alberta Canada and into Manitoba.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM
THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.  TYPICALLY
OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO
DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND
OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE
Remnant higher level smoke from previous-day burning can be seen covering

Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.

A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.

Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
