DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SEND EMAIL RESPONSES TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov. SMOKE: Utah/Wyoming... Wildfires in western Wyoming and central Utah continue to burn producing moderate-to-heavy density smoke moving towards the east. Northern California/Southwest Oregon... Residual smoke from diminishing wildfires can be seen originating in southwest Oregon extending towards the south over Eureka/CA, and near Redding/CA extending towards the south into northern Sacramento Valley. Lower mid-west/south-southeast/mid-Atlantic... Numerous agricultural fires were observed during the afternoon and early evening hours along the mid and lower Mississippi Valley, creating a widespread plume of moderate density smoke over eastern Arkansas and southeast Missouri. Scattered fire activity was also seen in northern Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma. An area of high pressure centered around Tennessee is spreading the smoke from those fires across the entire region and into the mid-Atlantic. WS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
