DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SEND EMAIL RESPONSES TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov. SMOKE: Middle and Lower Mississippi Valley... Numerous seasonal/agricultural fires were detected through the day over southeastern Missouri, eastern Arkansas, and northwestern Mississippi with quite a few visible thin density smoke plumes seen in satellite imagery. The smoke generally moved to the north and northwest with some of the plumes eventually combining into larger leftover patches of thin density smoke. California... Smoke was significantly less prominent with the wildfire northeast of the San Francisco-Oakland metro areas with only a little thin density smoke appearing to spread to the west and southwest from the fire. JS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
