DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0001Z August 8, 2020
SMOKE: Northern California... The Six Rivers Lightning Fires in northern California was observed producing light to moderate smoke that was moving off toward the west across the southwesternmost Cascade mountains and off the California coast into the near-shore Pacific Ocean. Once there, the smoke was moving off toward the south near San Luis Obispo Moderate to heavy density smoke was emitting towards the NE from a fire in southern California near the San Bernardino National Forest. Central Rockies.. An area of light remnant smoke was observed moving northeast across northern Utah, Wyoming, far southwestern South Dakota, western Nebraska, and far northeastern Colorado. Western Colorado... The Pine Gulch fire in west-central Colorado was observed producing moderate to heavy smoke that was moving off toward the northeast. South central Idaho… A fire located in south central Idaho was producing moderate to heavy smoke plume towards the east. Canada... Two areas of light remnant smoke were observed over Canada, one over northern Quebec and Newfoundland moving east-northeast and another over central Canada moving east to east-southeast. These are likely leftover from Siberian wildfire activity. Mexico… Moderate density smoke was emitting from a fire located south of Tijuana in Baja California. The smoke was moving towards the E-NE reaching the southern border of California. DUST: Caribbean Sea/Atlantic Ocean... An area of Saharan dust was observed extending from the central Tropical Atlantic into the central Caribbean. This feature was moving west. Rodriguez THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
