DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: Mississippi Valley... A large area of remnant thin density smoke due to previously observed heavy seasonal burning was detected stretching from Arkansas south into Louisiana and into the Gulf of Mexico and along the Texas coast. Louisiana/Oklahoma/Arkansas... Several light density plumes moving primarily to the east from seasonal burns were detected over eastern Oklahoma and Arkansas. An additional elongated plume of light density smoke was observed moving south into the Gulf of Mexico from seasonal fires in southwestern Louisiana. Southeastern U.S... Several light density plumes moving primarily to the southeast from seasonal burns were detected over Alabama, western Georgia and into the Florida panhandle. Additional areas of moderate density smoke were also observed sporadically throughout the region. SMOKE/AEROSOL: Mexico/Northwestern Central America/Pacific Ocean South of Mexico and Central America... A combination of thin density smoke from seasonal fires in Mexico and Central America and other atmospheric pollutants including aerosols from oil/gas flaring and other industries in the region were detected over portions of southern Mexico, northwestern Central America, and the Pacific Ocean off the southern coast of Mexico and Central America. Levine THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
