THROUGH 0240Z June 5, 2022
SMOKE: New Mexico... Two large ongoing wildfires, one over the north-central part of the state and another located in the southwestern part of the state, are producing moderate heavy density plumes that are spreading to the southeast. A light density plume covers the eastern and southern part of the state. South-Central and Southeastern U.S./Atlantic... An area of remnant density smoke from the ongoing wildfires in New Mexico with contributions from recent seasonal burning was detected across the Southern Plains, the Lower Mississippi Valley, parts of the Southeast, and then extending east-northeastward off the Southeast coast north of Bermuda for over 1500 miles. Canada/Upper Mississippi Valley... A large wildfire in central Saskatchewan was producing a moderate to localized heavy density plume that was extending southeast into southern Manitoba, southwestern Ontario, and across the parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley. SMOKE/AEROSOL: Mexico/Gulf of Mexico/Pacific... A large area of light density smoke from seasonal fire activity mixed with aerosols from oil/gas flaring and other industrial sources in Mexico was observed covering the northern and western parts of Gulf of Mexico, most of Mexico, and extending well offshore to the south and southwest of Mexico over the Pacific Ocean. DUST: Caribbean... A thin plume of Saharan dust was detected across the eastern part of the Caribbean Sea. Konon THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG map: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
