THROUGH 01700Z June 29, 2022
SMOKE: Alaska, Yukon, Northwestern Territories, Western Canada... A large area of light to moderate density smoke, attributed mainly to wildfires burning in portions of western and central Alaska and northwestern Canada, was visible stretching from western Alaska through the Yukon and Northwest Territories and extending into northern portion of Western Canada. Pockets of moderate to heavy density smoke stretched across the Northwest Territories. Heavier density smoke was visible through cloud cover near the sources of the wildfires, mainly central and eastern Alaska and extending southeast towards the Gulf of Alaska. Northern Great Plains, Mid-West, Southern U.S.. An area of light density smoke most likely due to wildfires throughout Canada and fire activity in the region was observed progressing relatively eastward, extending from the Northern Great Plains through Michigan, south-central U.S into Mexico and northeast through parts of the southeastern U.S into Virginia. The smoke may extend further in parts of Eastern Canada, mainly Ontario, and southeastern U.S through North Carolina, however cloud cover obstructed view in these regions respectively. California... A large wildfire was observed in northern Sacramento Valley producing a light density smoke moving northwest. Moderate to heavy density smoke was also seen near the source of the fire. Nguyen THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG map: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
