DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1656Z September 17, 2022
SMOKE: Northwestern to central and eastern U.S./Western Eastern and Central Canada... Thick smoke was observed emanating from the Mosquito Fire in northern California, the Cedar Creek fire in western Oregon was could covered but remnant moderate density smoke from this fire was located south east from the wildfire. Plumes from these fires included moderate smoke across parts of of Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, California, and Montana. Remnant smoke from these and other wildfires across the western U.S. and northwestern Canada covered large portions of North America from central California and the Yukon in the west to the Great Lakes and down to the Gulf Coast, with additional areas extending east over the Atlantic Ocean south of Nova Scotia. Numerous large patches of moderate smoke were observed within the overall coverage area. Eastern United States... Moderate to possibly dense remnant smoke was visible moving east due to the fires in the northwestern U.S. and numerous plumes of light to moderate smoke that were observed from agricultural burning activity yesterday enening. Eglin THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
