The ESPC plans to fail over to the Critical Infrastructure Protection
(CIP) site at Wallops, VA on May 28, 2014 in support of ESPC/CIP
Testing. The purpose of the exercise is to validate the ability to fail
over the ESPC Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network to the CIP
system and the ability to then switch back to the NSOF facility. During
the test, there will be no network connectivity to the operational Data
Distribution Server (DDS) from outside the NOAA Satellite Operational
Satellite Facility (NSOF). Since the CIP test does not include Jason-2,
near real-time users will not be able to access Jason-2 OGDR products
via the DDS during the test. However, OGDR-BUFR files will still be
available via the Global Telecommunication System (GTS).
The Facility Backup Exercise will begin at 8:30 AM EDT. The CIP site
will be the operational ESPC system for approximately seven (7) hours
until the exercise is failed back. The return to nominal ESPC
operations
at NSOF will be established by 3:30 PM EDT. For the duration of the
test, all Jason-2OGDR products will be generated by EUMETSAT and made
available via the GTS and their EUMETCAST system. No operational ftp
servers will be available during this time to replace the DDS. Once
nominal ESPC operations are re-established all Jason-2 products and
ancillary files will again be available with up to a 7 hour latency.
There is a possibility the fail over date could be delayed if there
is a
critical weather day, at which point users will be notified
accordingly.
