2017, no valid channel 7 measurements were available due to the Metop-B
AMSU-A channel 7 anomaly, which caused a degradation of the ATOVS
product quality. THE ATOVS soundings products are severely impacted by
the anomaly. STAR scientists are working to find a substitute for
AMSU-A
channel 7 on Metop-B for ATOVS application and they are making an
assessment for a possible solution to the anomaly. Currently, no good
retrievals are being made from the ATOVS using the Metop-B data. Users
are recommended to use the available products with caution. A decision
will be made whether to terminate the affected ATOVS sounding products
based on an upcoming assessment. ***
