During the indicated period, the GRAS receiver onboard Metop-A will undergo a series of tracking parameter tests aiming at improving the signal characteristics of rising occultations. In particular, the campaign aims at reducing vertical error correlations of bending angles in the lower stratosphere, at the same time minimizing side effects. During this period, the number of daily occultations from Metop-A as well as the penetration of rising occultations into the mid and lower troposphere might vary more than usual. GOME-2 |
general-announcement |
risk-of-degradation |
The Metop-A satellite with GOME-2 on-board is meanwhile in a drifting orbit. As a consequence there will be periods in the future during which the GOME-2 instrument will not be able to carry out its daily solar calibration measurement. The first such period will be from 26th January 2018 to 19th February 2018 (24 days). During this period, the solar mean reference spectrum provided in the GOME-2 level-1B product will be automatically replaced by a modelled solar spectrum using information on solar activity from Metop-B. Therefore it is expected that the product quality of both level-1B and level-2 products might undergo slight changes during this period. In addition, there will be a risk of degraded product quality for GOME-2 Metop-A products during these days. |

A Jason-2 inclination maneuver is scheduled for 5-February-2018. The first burn will occur at 00h54m34s Di = -0.0185° with a duration of 584.5s Dv 2.325m/s. The second burn will occur at 06h30m00s Di = +0.0185° with a duration of 596.75s Dv 2.325m/s. The maneuvers will be performed mostly, but not completely, over land. Telemetry during the maneuvers (~10 minutes each) will be unusable. Sea surface height measurements from telemetry between the two maneuvers (~5.5 hours) is expected to be degraded. In addition, products could be impacted 30 minutes before the first maneuver and up to 2 hours following the second maneuver. Wind and wave content in the products will not be impacted. |
