Update #1:  As of February 10, 2017, the latest information on
an upcoming
system transition is provided: On February 8, 2017 the new SNPP
Ground Data
Systems completed an operational readiness review.  One last readiness
review is scheduled to occur in late February for the entire SNPP data
operations systems. Based on the current schedule, a transition to
the new
S-NPP/GCOM data processing/distribution systems to operations is
anticipated to occur no earlier than March 1, 2017 - the exact date and
timing of that transition will be provided at the end of February.

Details/Specifics of Change: NESDIS is preparing to transition the new
S-NPP/GCOM data processing/distribution systems to operations no
earlier
than  March 1, 2017 - the exact date and timing of that transition
will be
provided in mid-February.

S-NPP/GCOM users obtaining data from the current operational NDE system
will operationally transition to the new NESDIS enterprise Product,
Distribution and Access (PDA) dissemination system for the existing
products they receive today.  As a notice to our users, there are no
expected changes for those receiving NESDIS Unique Products (NUPs);
however, users receiving HDF5 pass-through data will see filename
convention changes and the HDF5 data will be internally compressed
using
Zlib lossless compression. Current NDE pull users need to modify
their pull
script to accommodate the file name change for IDPS pass-through
products.

An example of the existing file-naming convention with one S-NPP/JPSS
Data
Product packaged in a single HDF5 file is:
SVM01_npp_d20130117_t2059265_e2100506_b06349_c20130118032130407525_noaa_ops.h5

An example of the new file-naming convention with one S-NPP/JPSS Data
Product packaged in a single HDF5 file is:

An additional identifier is present to indicate file compression.

This general notice of intent to switch operations to the new system
called
PDA only affects current users on the existing operational NDE system.
Details on the exact date and timing of this transition will be
provided in
a few weeks. Other product transition to PDA will take place at a later
date, with subsequent notification.
