Subject: Administrative, Update #3: S-NPP/GCOM transition to new --94eb2c047c1a33b7c7054a3962e0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Update #3: As of Mar 8, 2017 1500 UTC the transition to the new S-NPP/GCOM operational data processing/distribution systems (Block 2.0 and PDA) is underway. After 1527 UTC, all SNPP data will be be operationally flowing through the new systems. Update #2: This update confirms that the S-NPP/GCOM transition will transition to the new operational data processing/distribution systems (Block 2.0 and PDA) on March 8, 2017 starting at 15:00 UTC - unless critical weather support for that day is required. After the S-NPP contact on 15:27 UTC on that day, all operational data processing will be coming from the new ground system/segment, this includes the PDA distribution segment. Important note - the ATMS calibration computations have been improved; therefore, those consumers that utilize these data for NWP assimilation purposes or other highly sensitive quantitative applications should be prepared to make the necessary adjustments prior to use. Update #1: The S-NPP/GCOM transition to the new operational data processing/distribution systems (Block 2.0 and PDA) is still on schedule for March 8, 2017 at 15:00 UTC. S-NPP has a scheduled Svalbard pass on 15:27 UTC on that day and all operational data processing will be on the new ground system/segment, including PDA. Important note - the ATMS calibration computations have been improved; therefore, those that utilize these data for NWP assimilation purposes or other highly sensitive quantitative applications should be prepared. Topic: S-NPP/GCOM transition to new operational data processing/distribution systems (Block 2.0 and PDA) is officially scheduled for March 8, 2017 at 15:00 UTC Date/Time Issued: March 8, 2017 1500 UTC Product(s) or Data Impacted: All S-NPP/GCOM pass through and NDE products Date/Time of Initial Impact: Wednesday March 8, 2017 1500 UTC Date/Time of Expected End: Wednesday March 8, 2017 1500 UTC Length of Outage: N/A Details/Specifics of Change: NESDIS will officially transition the new S-NPP/GCOM-W1 data processing/distribution systems to operations on March 8, 2017 starting at 1500 UTC. The backup date for this transition will be March 9, 2017 at 1445 UTC - this alternate date will be utilized for transition if the March 8th transition date/time is cancelled due to a need to support critical weather. Additional information... S-NPP/GCOM users obtaining data from the current operational NDE system will operationally transition to the new NESDIS enterprise Product, Distribution and Access (PDA) dissemination system for the existing products they receive today. As a notice to our users, there are no expected changes for those receiving NESDIS Unique Products (NUPs); however, users receiving HDF5 pass-through data will see filename convention changes and the HDF5 data will be internally compressed using Zlib lossless compression. Current NDE pull users need to modify their pull script to accommodate the file name change for IDPS pass-through products. An example of the existing file-naming convention with one S-NPP/JPSS Data Product packaged in a single HDF5 file is: SVM01_npp_d20130117_t2059265_e2100506_b06349_c20130118032130407525_noaa_ops.h5 An example of the new file-naming convention with one S-NPP/JPSS Data Product packaged in a single HDF5 file is: SVM01_npp_d20130117_t2059265_e2100506_b06349_c20130118032130407525_noac_ops.h5 An additional identifier is present to indicate file compression. This official notice to switch operations to the new system SNPP Block 2.0 data systems and PDA only affects current users on the existing operational NDE or Block 1.2 systems.
