In the event critical weather is declared by the National Weather Service, the backup date for this activity will be moved to the next day if possible or a follow-up notification will be issued announcing the new dates of this exercise. All direct connect authorized users should ensure their connections to the CBU PDA or SNPP services located at CBU are verified before the exercise commences.* Topic:* Planned S-NPP Consolidated Backup (CBU) Exercise from Fairmont, WV Facility *Date/Time Issued: *September 15, 2017 1644 UTC *Product(s) or Data Impacted: *S-NPP/GCOM-W1 products *Date/Time of Initial Impact: *September 19, 2017 1200 UTC *Date/Time of Expected End: *September 19, 2017 2000 UTC (for S-NPP and GCOM-W1 data operations) and September 21, 2017 1200 UTC (for S-NPP flight/satellite operations) *Length of Outage: *see details below *Details/Specifics of Change: *All S-NPP/GCOM-W1 data processing and flight/satellite operations will be failed over to the Consolidated Back Up (CBU) site at Fairmont, WV on September 19, 2017 in support of a test of the CBU capability. The purpose of the exercise is to ensure the ability to fail over S-NPP flight and data operations of S-NPP and GCOM-W1 to the CBU and also to test our ability to switch back to the NSOF primary facility upon conclusion of the exercise. The flight/satellite operations failover portion of the test will last 48 hours, the data operations failover test (which includes IDPS, NDE/PDA, CLASS and JSH feeds) will run for approximately 7 hours, and a test of IDMZ failover will last 24 hours. During the data operations failover test, there will be no S-NPP/GCOM-W1 data produced at NSOF. A subset of critical S-NPP/GCOM-W1 data will be made available via the PDA located at CBU only for users with connectivity to that backup system. GOES-16 and other non-S-NPP products available via PDA at NSOF will be unaffected by this test and will still be produced and distributed through the PDA at NSOF. The CBU Facility Backup Exercise will begin at 08:00 AM EDT / 1200 UTC on Sep 19, 2017. The CBU site will be the operational S-NPP/GCOM-W1 product generation and distribution system for approximately 7 hours. The return to nominal ESPC operations at NSOF will be initiated by 03:00 PM EDT / 1900 UTC on September 19, 2017. IDMZ services will be transferred to CBU for approximately 24 hours and will last until Sep 20 at 1200 UTC.
