The current GOES-East image over the Western Atlantic. Similar to a black and white photo taken from space, clouds will show up as bright gray and white. The ocean appears as dark gray. This image is used to look for low level circulations that can potentially turn into tropical storms. Visible is also used to determine the center of circulation of mature storms. The cloud pattern determines the current intensity of the storm using the Dvorak Technique (Dvorak et al., 1984).
