GOES-M was launched from Kennedy Space Center on July 23, 2001. After a series of thruster firings, GOES-M has reached geostationary orbit and is now officially GOES-12. The following image is the first visible image taken by GOES-12 at 1800 UTC (2:00 p.m. EDT) on August 17, 2001.
