DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THRU 0130Z JULY 22, 2005

Alaska:
Dense smoke from a fire 14mi S of Tanana, AK is in a line 24mi wide and
extends WSW to 41 mi SE of Kaltag.

Arizona:
Moderately dense smoke from the Edge Complex fires is in a line 44mi
wide and extends W to the CA/AZ boarder.

New Mexico:
Moderately dense smoke from the Black Range fires is in a line 32mi wide
and extends W to Globe, AZ.

Montana:
Moderately dense smoke from an unnamed fire 7mi NNE of Worden, MT in
central Yellowstone county has had low level winds that have veered
throughout the day causing the smoke to spread in nearly all directions
across the county.  However... upper level winds are blowing the smoke in
a 10 mi wide line to the Rosebud/Custer/Powder River county intersection.

Northwestern/Central Canada:
Dense smoke from the continuing fires across the south-central portion
of the NW territories has moved to the SE and can be seen across the
northern half of Alberta the central 1/3 of Saskatchewan over La Ronge
into Manitoba covering the northern half of Lake Winnipeg.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
