THROUGH 0100Z October 8, 2005

California:
Two fires in Tulare County, one in Madera County, one in Mariposa County,
one in Plumas County and two in Colusa County are producing moderately
thick smoke plumes. The plumes extend toward the north or northeast
except one of the Colusa County fires has a plume toward the northwest.

Arizona:
Two fires near the border of Gila and Coconino Counties are producing
large plumes of thick smoke that extend toward the northeast.

Colorado:
A fire near the border of Park and Teller Counties is producing a
moderately thick eastward plume.

Kansas:
A number of agricultural burns in south-central and western Kansas
are producing moderately thick smoke plumes that extend north or
northwestward.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
