DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1500Z October 19, 2005

Southeastern US:
A slight hazy appearance was noted in the morning visible imagery across
a large portion of the Southeast extending from the lower Mississippi
Valley to off the Carolina coast. Some residual smoke from the numerous
primarily agricultural fires detected yesterday afternoon/evening in the
region could possibly be contained in the layer of haze trapped below
the inversion level under the sprawling surface high pressure system
centered over AL/GA.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
