DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2300Z November 15, 2005

Arizona:
A fire near SR-64 near Tusayan in Coconino county is producing thin to
moderate smoke extending WSW 52km. The plume is about 6-7 km wide.

A fire near Overgaard in S Navajo county produced a small plume of thin
some that has since become detached and is dissipating in near Roosevelt
in Gila county. It extended 58km SW and was about 5km wide.

Concentrated moderate smoke from a fire near SR-99 in far southeastern
Coconino county (near Barts Crossing or West Chevelon Crossing) is in
a 5km wide plume extending SW 67km to the Gila/Yavapai/Maricopa county
intersection.

Mexico (Chihuahua):

Strong northerly winds created two distinct pockets of airbourne sand and
dust from the desert between Corralitos and Lucero Mexico in N Chihauahua.
The most dense area is about 20km by 20km and is located just West of
Buenaventura in the San Miguel Arrayo. The other area has become too
diffuse to be detectable as of 2300Z.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
