DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0145Z November 20, 2005

Northwestern Baja California, Mexico:
GOES satellite imagery showed large fires burning in northwestern Baja
California between Tijuana and Ensenada. These fires were producing
dense smoke plumes that extended to the west and southwest over the
Pacific Ocean.

Arizona & Oregon:
A fire in the Coronada National Forest in eastern Cochise county in
southeastern Arizona produced a narrow plume of thin smoke that extended
toward the southeast to northern Mexico. Fires in southwestern Oregon
in the counties of Klamath, Lane and Lincoln produced small plumes of
thin smoke.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
