DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1730Z November 21, 2005

Northwestern Baja California, Mexico:
A large fire in northwestern Baja between Tijuana and Ensenada is
continuing to burn. An extensive plume of dense smoke extends to the
west across the Pacific Ocean.  The smoke is not moving into the southern
California region at this time.

Arizona:
A fire located northeast of Phoenix on the border of Gila and Coconino
county is emitting a plume of thin smoke moving to the west into Yavapai
county.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
