DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1630Z November 27, 2005

Texas/New Mexico/Oklahoma/northern Mexico:
A large area of blowing dust/sand is seen across much of West Texas and
extreme southeast New Mexico extending to the east and northeast reaching
the Red River along the southwest Oklahoma border. The sand/dust is most
dense over northern Mexico and West Texas along and south of Interstate
10. The source for much of the dust/sand is northern Chihuahua near
Villa Ahumada.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
