DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0230Z December 1, 2005

New Mexico:
Strong winds fanned wildfires over SE New Mexico. A large fire in
northern Roosevelt County produced a plume of dense smoke that extended
approximately 185 nmi to the east over western Texas. A smaller fire
over southern Eddy County produced a plume of thin smoke that spread
just over the border to counties in SW Texas.

Louisiana/ Alabama/ Florida:
Scattered fires producing small plumes of thin smoke were analyzed
in western Louisiana and NE Texas. The smoke moved mostly northward.
Fires producing small plumes of thin smoke were also observed over SW
Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. Smoke from these fires moved southward.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
