DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0100Z December 3, 2005

Southeastern U.S./Lower Mississippi Valley:
Their are numerous agricultural and/or prescribed burns across Arkansas,
Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida.
Quite a few fires in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama are producing
small to moderate in size plumes of smoke.  The smoke is very thin.  Their
are a couple of smoke producing fires in South Carolina and Arkansas.

South Florida:
A large number of fires are burning around Lake Okeechobee in the counties
of Palm Beach, Hendry, Okeechobee, Glades and Highlands.  A majority of
these fires are in Palm Beach and Hendry counties and they are producing
only thin smoke.  The smoke is moving south into Miami-Dade, Monroe and
Broward counties.

Arizona/New Mexico:
A fire burning in Cochise county in Arizona is producing a thin plume
of smoke.  The smoke is moving east into Hidalgo county in New Mexico.

Oklahoma:
Fires burning in Pittsburg and Hughes counties in southeast Oklahoma
are emitting thin plumes of smoke moving into Okmulgee, Okfuskee and
McIntosh counties.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
