DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2345Z February 3, 2006

Texas and New Mexico:
Fires burning in Webb and Wharton counties, Texas, generated thin smoke
plumes that moved to the south while a fire earlier in the afternoon close
to the Matagorda-Brazoria border produced a smoke plume that moved towards
the east. A fairly broad area of blowing dust extended from Hildago and
Starr Counties, Texas, southward into Mexico for over 100 nmi. Smoke was
moving towards the east southeast from a blaze in Eddy County, New Mexico.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
