DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0230Z February 5, 2006

Texas/Louisiana/Mississippi/Florida:
Several smoke producing fires were scattered across the Gulf
coast region stretching from the Florida panhandle to southeastern
Texas. Brisk northwesterly winds were blowing the long narrow smoke plumes
southeastward and mainly out over the Gulf of Mexico. The most prominent
smoke plumes were observed from fires located in Okaloosa County of far
northwestern Florida, Jackson and Perry Counties of southern Mississippi,
and Chambers and Brazoria Counties of southeastern Texas.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
