DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2345Z February 6, 2006

California:
A large fire in northeast Orange county near Chino Hills is producing a
broad area of moderately dense to dense smoke that is generally moving
to the west. The smoke covers much of Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa
Barbara counties, the Channel Islands and adjoining areas of the Pacific.

Baja Mexico:
Two fires burning in the mountains of north central Baja about 150 km
south of Tijuana are producing narrow smoke plumes that are of light
density and extending west about 100 km into the Pacific.

Florida:
A blaze in southwest Baker county had a smoke plume extending north into
Charlton and Ware counties Georgia. The plume was moderately dense.

A plume was seen extending from southwest Wakulla county and extending
north to near the Leon border.

A puff of smoke was seen late this afternoon over southern Osceola county
moving to the northeast into southwest Brevard.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
