DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2345Z February 12, 2006

Arizona:
A fire in extreme northern Gila County (near the Coconino border)
continues to burn and is producing a moderately dense plume that extends
southwest into extreme southeast Maricopa County.

Florida:
Smoke from a fire in Santa Rosa County extends southeast into the Gulf
of Mexico.

Louisiana:
Smoke from a fire in Iberia County extends southeast into the Gulf
of Mexico.

Texas:
Fires in Brown, Coleman, and Eastland counties has produced plumes of
dense smoke that extend 247 km to the southeast.  A blaze in Carson County
earlier this afternoon produced a cloud of smoke that was dissipating
over Stonewall County, 228 km to the southeast.

Oregon:
Smoke from a fire in Douglas County was moving south into northern
Coos County.

Baja California:
Several fires were producing moderately dense smoke that extended west
into the Pacific.

  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
