DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0245Z February 18, 2006

Florida/Georgia:
Several fires over southern Georgia and northern Florida have small
smoke plumes that drifted between 10-15 miles south/southeast from their
respective fires. The most significant smoke plume was associated with
a fire over northern Columbia county that extended about 10-15 miles
north into northwest Baker county, Florida and also about 10-15 miles
south into central Columbia county, Florida.

A fire in the vicinity of Cape Canaveral had a smoke plume that extended
15-20 miles north/northeast over the Canaveral National Seashore and
just offshore.

Washington/Oregon:
A fire over southern Whitman county near the Snake River was producing a
narrow smoke plume that extended 40 miles southwest into northern Walla
Walla and southern Franklin county in Washington

A fire very near the Washington/Oregon border of Walla Walla/Umatilla
counties was also producing a narrow smoke plume which extended into
15-20 miles southwest into northwest Umatilla county.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
