DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0100Z February 24, 2006

Florida/Cuba:
Fires over southwest Charlotte, southern Hendry and southwest Collier
were producing moderately dense plumes that were moving east. The smoke
had reached into central Glades, southwest Palm Beach and central Collier
by sunset.
Several narrow smoke plumes (all less than 50 km long) that are moderately
dense were seen over Cuba moving mainly to the north-northeast. This
trajectory would take them southeast of the Florida peninsula.

Missouri:
A fire in central Macon county has a smoke plume of thin density
extending about 65km to the southeast reaching into southeast Monroe
county. A small plume was over northwest Harrison county and extended
into central Harrison.

California/Oregon:
A blaze in north central Josephine county Oregon had a smoke plume
extending east and reaching the Jackson county border. The plume was
narrow and of thin density.
Several small, thin smoke plumes were seen over northern California
and mainly drifting to the south. The plumes were all less than 50
km in length. The fires were over northern Humboldt, western Tehama,
southwest Sutter and central Siskiyou just northwest of Mt Shasta.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
