DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2330Z February 28, 2006

Location of smoke is before local sunset when visible imagery to too
dark to detect the smoke with ease.

North Carolina: (2245Z)
A fire near Cherry Point Air Field in Pamlico county is producing dense
smoke that extends E 71km or about 20km to the SW of Atlantic. The width
of the plume is about 29km wide.

Florida thru (2215Z)
A fire near Gardner in S Hardee county along with a fire near Brownville
in De Soto county are combining to produce a plume of thin smoke that is
drifting S about 46km to the Charlotte/Lee county line near SR-31. The
plume is about 11km wide
A fire in far SE Charlotte county N of Alva is producing a plume of thin
smoke moving S 28km. The plume is about 10km wide.
A fire near Lakewood Park in St. Lucie county is producing thin smoke
that is moving SW and extends about 5km with a width about 1-2km. A much
larger plume of moderate density is moving ESE and is a bit higher in
altitude and extends aobut 53km away from the fire or 37km offshore with
an average width of 20km.
A fire near Twin Pole in S Liberty county has recently had rapid increase
in smoke production from increased winds.  The smoke is dense moving
to the ESE and extends 32km to the coast of Apalachee Bay in Piney
Island...with an average width of 29km.  A thin line of smoke could be
seen moving ENE extending 57km to near St. Marks in Wakulla county.

Alabama:  (thru 2245Z)
A fire near Pleasant Hill in Dale county is producing thin smoke that
is moving ENE and extends 35km and is about 11km wide.
A fire near Johnsonville in Conecuh county is producing thin smoke that
is moving ENE and extends 86km and is about 18km wide.
A fire near Dixonville along the FL/AL state line in Escambia county is
producing thin to moderately dense smoke that and extends 76km and is
about 20km wide.
A fire near Nettleboro in Clarke county is producing thin smoke that is
moving ENE and extends 99km and is about 21km wide.

Mississippi:  (thru 2245Z)
A fire near Energy in Clarke county is producing moderately dense smoke
that is moving ENE and extends 81km to near Alfalfa, AL in Marengo
county. The plume is about 13km wide.
A fire near Smithtown in Wayne county is producing convectively dense
smoke that is moving NE and extends 59km to near Coxs Landing, AL in
Clarke county. The plume is about 28km wide.
A fire near Avent in George county has produced convectively dense smoke
that has moved ENE into SE AL about 137km from the source near Perdue
Hill, AL in Monroe county. The plume is about 30km wide.
A fire near Vestry in Jackson county is producing convectively dense
smoke that extends ENE 29km and is about 23km wide.
A fire near Martin Bluff in Jackson county produced a moderately dense
puff of smoke that is about 11km by 11km and is located over Mobile Bay
at 2245Z. The puff started around 2045Z.

Louisiana: (thru 2245Z)
A fire near Bringhurst in Rapides parish is producing moderate to dense
smoke that extends NE 64km and is about 21km wide.
A fire near Bentley in Grant parish is producing moderate to dense
smoke that extends NE 165km to the AR/LA boarder into SE Ashley county,
AR. The plume is about 25km wide.
A fire near Clavin in Winn parish is producing moderate to dense smoke
that extends NE 142km into S AR near SW Ashley county. The plume is
about 20km wide.

Texas:  (thru 2315Z)
A fire south of the Sam Rayburn Res. near the town of Ebenezer in Jasper
county is producing dense smoke that extends NNE 97km to the N tip of
the Toledo Bend Res. The plume is about 26km wide.
A fire near Evergreen in San Jacinto county is producing moderate to
dense smoke that extends NNE 132km and is about 28km wide.
A fire that is covering most of the SW portion of Matagorda island
producing a very complex smoke situation with smoke going in nearly all
directions:  The plume of moderate to dense smoke covers all of Jackson,
Victoria, Calhoun, and E Refugio counties as well as a small area of
the Gulf of Mexico from the fire to 33km SE of the fire to 13km SW of
the fire just off the San Jose Island coast.
