DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0015Z March 2, 2006

Texas:
Smoke was moving east across Archer County from a fire in nearby Baylor
County.  Dense smoke was moving north from a blaze in Aransas County.

Oklahoma:
Intense fires were producing smoke plumes in Stephens, Jefferson and
Carter counties.  The smoke was moving towards the east.  Another intense
fire in Lincoln County generated a smoke plume that moved east southeast.

Colorado:
Intense blaze in Yuma County resulted in a plume of smoke that moved
towards the southeast.

Alabama:
Several smoke plumes were moving northeast from fires in Alabama.
Most notable among these were blazes in Clay and Calhoun counties.
Smoke was also entering the state from fires in Wayne and Santa Rosa
counties in Florida.

Florida Panhandle.
Smoke was moving north from fires in Jefferson and Leon counties.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
