DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z MARCH 14, 2006

Texas:
A significant fire continues to burn along the Donley/Collingsworth County
border of the northern Texas panhandle. The smoke plume from this fire
initially was moving in a southeasterly direction very early this morning,
but changing winds are now pushing the locally moderately dense smoke
in a northward direction across portions of Gray and Wheeler Counties.

Gulf of Mexico:
Visible imagery shows a possible thin swath of leftover smoke along with
blowing dust/sand along cold front moving southeastward over the central
Gulf of Mexico. Cloudiness present over the region is making detection
difficult at this time.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
