DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0015Z MARCH 30, 2006

Southeast:
Moderately dense smoke was moving east northeast into South Carolina from
a fire in Greene County, Georgia. A narrow plume produced by a fire in
Berkeley County, South Carolina, extended 260 km into the Atlantic Ocean.
The brush fire in Miami-Dade County produced a plume that fanned out
towards the west into the Everglades. A fire on Andros Island, Bahamas,
resulted in a smoke plume that extended to a point roughly 70 km to the
east of Biscayne Bay.

Arkansas
Thick smoke was moving north from blazes in Garland, Yell and Perry
counties.

Tennessee and Kentucky:
A fire near the McCreary-Pulaski county border created a smoke plume that
fanned out from east to west while a fire in Monroe County, Tennessee,
resulted in a plume that fanned out from northwest to southeast.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
