DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z APRIL 2, 2006.

Bahamas/Cuba/Florida:
A few small fires to the east and southeast of Lake Okeechobee produced
a small patch of relatively thin smoke which drifted westward across the
lake before dissipating. Fires scattered across the Bahamas were emitting
thin to moderately dense smoke plumes which spread westward in the general
direction of southern Florida. Numerous fires were detected over much
of Cuba although the smoke plumes were generally moving southward or
westward and away from southern Florida.

Missouri:
A fire close to the Pulaski-Phelps County border region of south central
Missouri was responsible for a moderately dense area of smoke which moved
mostly in a westward direction during the early afternoon, before clouds
moved across the region preventing additional smoke detection.

Eastern Kansas/Missouri:
Other than the Pulaski-Phelps County border fire described above, very
little smoke was noted from the tremendous number of fires detected
across eastern Kansas and Missouri due to widespread cloudiness moving
across the Central Plains.

Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.

Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.

A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.

Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
