DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1530Z APRIL 14, 2006.

Northern Plains/Upper Mississippi Valley and Midwest:
An area of moderately dense smoke is moving east southeast across
North and South Dakota into Minnesota and Michigan.  Some lighter smoke
stretches into southern Manitoba and eastward into Ontario.

Central Plains/Middle Mississippi Valley
Smoke leftover from yesterdays numerous fire across the region continue
to be seen in GOES satellite imagery.  Light smoke stretches from east
Nebraska and Kansas and into central/south Iowa and Missouri.  Although
the smoke is getting more and more difficult to see as the hours pass.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
