DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0015Z May 30, 2006.

Florida:
A fire in Baker County has resulted in a smoke plume that extended 100
km to the west southwest. A short-lived fire in Brevard County produced
a cloud of smoke that moved to the southwest. Smoke is fanning out to
the south of a blaze in Highlands County.

California:
A smoke plume extended 35 km to the southwest of a fire along the Kern-San
Luis Obispo border.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
