DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0145Z June 07, 2006.

Southeast US:
Several fires in the southeast have produced a quick puff of light smoke
that have moved south to southeast.  A fire south of Lake Okeechobee in
Broward county is producing a moderately dense plume of smoke that is
heading east out over the Atlantic.

Lower Mississippi Valley:
Small agricultural fires continue to burn throughout this region as they
have been.  These fires are all producing light plumes of smoke that are
moving in a southward direction, several are reaching the Gulf of Mexico.

Eastern Canada:
The wildfire located in Eastern Quebec is producing a massive amount of
very dense smoke that is moving in a southeast direction over the Gulf
of St. Lawrence.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
