DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1645Z July 3, 2006.

Northeast US/southern Ontario/Quebec:
An area of light to moderate smoke is moving east across southern Ontario
and Quebec and into the lower Great Lakes and the Northeast.

Canada/Northern US:
The massive amount of wildfires across British Columbia, Alberta,
Saskatchewan and Manitoba continue to produce large amounts of
moderately dense to dense smoke moving southeast across British Columbia,
Saskatchewan and Manitoba and into the northern Plains, Upper Mississippi
Valley and Upper Great Lakes and continuing to move east southeast across
the U.S.

Central/Southern Plains/Lower Mississippi and Tennessee Valley/Southeast:
Smoke from the Canadian fires has moved south overnight into the central
US. The smoke is mainly light to moderately dense and continues to move
south to southeast moving into Georgia and the Carolinas.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
