DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1545Z July 5, 2006.

Central/Eastern U.S and West/Central Canada:
The massive wildfire across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan
and Manitoba continue to produce very dense areas of smoke that cover
nearly all four provinces.  The enormous area of smoke has also moved
southeast into the U.S. with the most dense portions affecting Montana,
Minnesota, and the Dakota's, but also travelling as far south as Arkansas
and continuing straight up the east coast.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
