DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0220Z July 10, 2006.

Northeast U.S.:
A light mixture of smoke and haze is visible across the northeast United
States and out over the Atlantic Ocean. The source of this area of
smoke is the massive amount of wild fires across Canada that occurred
over the past week.

Northern California:
A fire on the border of Trinity and Tehama Counties is producing a
moderately dense plume of smoke that is moving north.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
