DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1500Z July 19, 2006.

Montana/Idaho/Wyoming/Northern Plains:
An east-west oriented axis of smoke leftover from fires in east-central
Montana is drifting northward toward the Canadian border. A very
small plume emminates from the persistent fire in the neck of Idaho.
Some smokiness can be seen mixed with the clouds over the Dakotas probably
from intense fires still burning in Wyoming.

Central and Eastern U.S.:
Other than large regions of haze and smog over eastern Virginia and North
Carolina... over much of the south-central Plains into Dixie...and over
the mid-Ohio Valley and the Mid-West, there doesn't appear to be any
significant smoke plumes.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
