DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1545Z July 20, 2006.

Minnesota/Ontario:
Several fires on the border of Minnesota and southern Ontario are
producing moderately dense plumes of smoke that are moving southeast
through northern Minnesota and into northern Wisconsin.

Upper/Middle Mississippi Valley and Northern/Central Plains:
Smoke from yesterday's wildfires in Wyoming and Montana can be seen
in visible imagery crossing through South Dakota, Nebraska, southern
Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri and Illinois.  The densest portions of smoke
seem to be moving through Nebraska and Iowa.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
