DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1745Z July 29, 2006.

California/Oregon:
Dense smoke from wildfires in central Oregon and northern California is
moving to the northeast through northern Idaho and thins out by the time
it reaches southern British-Columbia.

Northern Plains/Northwest U.S.:
Dense smoke is clearly visible in satellite imagery across Wyoming,
Montana, Nebraska and the Dakota's.  This massive area of smoke is a
combination of smoke from yesterdays fires and smoke from wildfires that
have burned through the night.

Canada:
Wildfires surrounding Lake Athabasca in northwest Saskatchewan are
producing dense plume of smoke that are moving to the southeast through
central Saskatchewan, across Manitoba and into western Ontario.

  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
